We crammed a lot of fun things into this one. God. Gender. The origins of the universe. The phrase “Cosmically They/Them” celebrates the expansiveness of God, the universe, and gender—three things that are impossibly contained by human-made boundaries or binaries. The phrase “Before the Big Bang” playfully embraces a science-informed reading of the creation stories in Genesis, advocating that faith and science don’t have to be opposites.
These stickers are also a statement that supports and acknowledges the trans community who need the backing of their faith communities more than ever, especially in the face of anti-trans legislation being passed around the United States.
At Illustrated Ministry, we've always emphasized the importance of using inclusive language for God. We've been following recent theological conversations on the topic of language for God and how the use of they/them pronouns may be the best pronouns to use for our relational, triune God. These stickers reflect not only this new way of thinking and talking about God but also our mission to celebrate the expansive image of God in everyone.
