Hunger is a universal human experience, drawing attention to both our basic needs for nourishment and deeper needs for peace, liberation, and meaning. From the Manger reflects on the playful symbolism of Jesus being laid in a feeding trough in Bethlehem, the “House of Bread,” inviting us to consider how the baby born in a bread town continues to feed a hungry world today. This Advent resource is designed to inspire, empower, and nourish your community and can be used on its own or alongside other From the Manger products.

Our From the Manger Interactive Worship Bulletins are designed for worshippers of all ages to deepen their connection with our Advent theme, From the Manger. Each bulletin is filled with thoughtfully crafted activities that tie into the weekly scripture passages and Advent themes, fostering a rich and interactive worship experience.

Our Interactive Worship Bulletins include coloring pages, sketching prompts, and word games to engage with key Advent themes. They also offer space to write words of hope and personal reflections, encouraging both individual and shared experiences between adults, youth, and children. These five worship bulletins for Advent and Christmas promote creativity, reflection, and spiritual growth for all ages throughout the Advent season.

How You Can Use It

There are many ways these Interactive Worship Bulletins can be used both at home and at church. Here are just a few examples of how they can be used:

I was disappointed with some aspects of the material

I was disappointed with some aspects of the material. I'm not sure I can use it.

First, the scripture references are not printed on the bulletins. How are people to look them up when they get home, or even while pursing the activities? But this is fairly minor compared to my other concern.

Next, I was dismayed by the nature of the games, especially in Advent 2. "Star by Star" is clearly based on a competitive game I grew up with called "Box." I played it with my siblings, and the objective was always to see who got the most boxes, and flaunt your superiority over your brother or sister. Your instructions don't suggest that, but you can count on it happening, especially in an intergenerational group that remembers playing it. Competition, to me, is contrary to the Gospel. The Good News is inclusive of all, excluding no one--no winners and losers. I spent 15 years as a Christian camp director, and we emphasized co-operative play, working together, not against each other. Similarly, that's how we raised our children, and how their alternative school operated. Many games can be converted, but I have yet to figure out how to make "Box" cooperative.

Wonderful and Wise

Thank you for the thoughtfully prepared materials for Advent for our K-12 children at Grace Episcopal Church Yorktown, VA. I love how you use the action word "...grows" for each theme in Advent. The theme of 'Growing' allows us to see Love, Peace, Joy Hope and the Good News flowing infinitely versus being associated with one day or week...so again, thank you for this gift for our children.
