Hunger is a universal human experience, drawing attention to both our basic needs for nourishment and deeper needs for peace, liberation, and meaning. From the Manger reflects on the playful symbolism of Jesus being laid in a feeding trough in Bethlehem, the “House of Bread,” inviting us to consider how the baby born in a bread town continues to feed a hungry world today. This Advent resource is designed to inspire, empower, and nourish your community and can be used on its own or alongside other From the Manger products.
From the Manger Children's Curriculum follows a similar format to our year-round lectionary curriculum, Mini Revolutions. For the four weeks of Advent and the first Sunday after Christmas, From the Manger Children's Curriculum provides you with a simple curriculum to use with your Pre-K through 5th-grade children. Each week of the curriculum includes the following:
- Scripture: One scripture based on the From the Manger theme that the rest of the components are based on.
- Bible Story Booklet: A child-friendly paraphrase of the scripture, accessible for all ages, with colorable illustrations that help tell the story.
- Bible Story Cards: Full-color illustrations and text from the weekly Bible Story Booklet enlarged to print each panel on an 8.5x11 sheet of paper.
- Bible Storytelling Videos: Interactive storytelling videos using full-color illustrations from the weekly Bible Story Booklet.
- Questions: Imagining and wondering open-ended questions that connect more deeply with the scripture.
- Look It Up: We highlight a moment in history, an interesting fact, or a person who made an impact that connects with the theme.
- Activity: We provide a fun mix of activities that help participants think creatively about the scripture through building and design, earth care, social justice, self-care and compassion, social/emotional learning, science, technology, and art.
- Prayer: Use this prayer to close your time together.
- Invitation to Play: A guided activity for leaders to invite their youngest children to embody the stories through curiosity and sensory play.
- Coloring Page: It includes an illustration from the selected scripture that invites reflection on the scripture.
