The Beatitudes: An Illustrated Curriculum is a twelve-session, verse-by-verse study of the Beatitudes from the Gospel of Matthew. This intergenerational curriculum is highly adaptable, providing a flexible and formative experience for your entire Sunday school program and the whole family.

Designed to be led virtually, this study explores Jesus’ timeless teaching through art, reflection, and discussion. This passage is full of wisdom that will enrich families and churches by exploring Jesus’ vision of God’s inclusive kingdom, observing how Jesus turned expectations and traditional beliefs about being blessed upside down, and imagining ways to live into the promises of Jesus’ Beatitudes.

What comes with The Beatitudes: An Illustrated Curriculum?

Twelve sessions that include the following:

  • Welcome and Chat: Includes a Welcome Question that you can use to engage in informal conversation while everyone joins the virtual space you're using.
  • Beatitude Reflection: A script that is meant to be used for leading these sessions online or via pre-recorded video. It will walk participants through the Beatitude that is the focus of the session.
  • Blessing: Gives you a chance to offer a blessing to the participants that ties in the focal scripture and/or Beatitude.
  • Imagining and Coloring: We encourage leaders to use the coloring page and discussion questions for imagining, coloring, and discussing.
  • Activity: We provide you with a possible activity for each session that inspires a deeper understanding and practice of the Beatitudes.
  • Prayer: A simple way that you can use to close each of the sessions with the participants.

Family Page: The Family Page is a tool that you can use in a variety of ways. It consists of a central question, a brief overview paragraph with a practice that families can do together, a modified version of the Beatitudes Reflection from the Leader Guide, and a prayer. Add the coloring page to it and send it home to families for family faith formation.

Appendix: While we have provided you with twelve sessions of material, we also created an appendix to help you expand your experience with The Beatitudes: An Illustrated Curriculum. It contains children’s book recommendations that complement what each session covers and additional resources.

Glossary: Included in this resource is a glossary to cover any words used in the curriculum that may need further definition and context.

Media Kit: Our Media Kit includes the Beatitudes logo in a variety of formats, full-color versions of some of the curriculum's coloring pages, as well as promotional images you can use in newsletters, social media, videos, and your website.

Additional Beatitudes Products (sold separately)

The Beatitudes Coloring Posters: We have created digital coloring posters that can be used along with our curriculum. The digital coloring posters include the posters formatted in our new Mosaic Poster Tile format (so you can print out smaller tiles at home that fit together to make a large poster).

The Beatitudes Coloring Pages: The 8.5˝ x 11˝ versions are included with your curriculum purchase, but if you want the ability to print them at larger sizes (A3, A4, 8.5˝ x 14˝ and 11˝ x 17˝), you'll need to purchase the coloring pages separately.

Wonderful Resource for Worship & Sunday School
The curriculum was wonderful for a combined family worship and sunday school. We offered both an in-person outdoor service and on-line service/ss for families using the curriculum. Families could choose their participation. I also liked the focus on one story, which is very rich and similar to the rotation model for learning. We incorporated sign language into the curriculum to add more movement with a culmination of different families doing the Beatitudes the last week in our online service.

Connecting and Engaging
I used this as my first inter generational Sunday school material. We did zoom calls. I made GooglePoint slides to show verses, activity pages, and even used it to collectively make a collage of what there is enough in Gods Kingdom (cats and dogs are a must). The activities engaged the younger kids and helped the older adults think about situations differently. Kids learned “crazy” things about our adults and adults were “blown away” by kids reflections. I’m not sure how engaged parents were with take home questions.
I would highly recommend this to anyone. And I’ll probably end up using it again in the future.

An Extraordinary Resource
We just wrapped up using the Beatitudes curriculum with two different age groups at our church. The youngest participants were preschool age and the oldest were grade 6 age. We loved using this curriculum. It was easy to use with all ages and easily adapted to fir the needs of our church. We look forward to continue Illustrated Ministry as part of our church curriculum. This is a must have if you are teaching Sunday school online!

Flexible and Faithful
We, like so many church folx these days, needed something flexible to offer our families during our time of distancing. The Beatitudes curriculum offered just what we were looking for. However, even more helpful was knowing without a doubt that the material would be faithful and forward-thinking. Thank you and keep these outstanding resources coming! We need voices of hope and healing like yours in these days!

Doing online content right
This is a wonderfully do-able online curriculum. It didn't have too many steps, and we could do it in 30 minutes, which was about the attention span of the kids. I will say that The Beatitudes and the discussions were difficult for the youngest of our children, 3-6. They were mostly there to be with other kids and didn't engage with the material much. But we were together and we were talking about Jesus, and it was good. I and the parents appreciated how much justice teaching there was.
