Seasons like Advent and Lent are great opportunities to say, “Hey kids – we’re going to try something new for the next few weeks.” Particularly during Advent, with our culture’s desire to get to December 25 as soon after Halloween as possible, it’s important to take time to stop, wait, and to have conversations and engage in intentional practices for the season.

An Illustrated Advent for Families is one way to do that—to slow down, ask questions, have fun, be intentional about how you spend your time, and try new things. There are coloring pages for your children, but we’ve often found that parents enjoy coloring them as much (if not more…) as their children enjoy the coloring. There are simple but meaningful devotions for families to do throughout Advent, an Advent Wreath activity, and our Advent Calendar.

December is a very busy time for pastors, Christian educators, children's ministry staff...really, anyone who works at a church. Pastors often look through a variety of Advent resources for families, but never quite find something that seems right for their church. And it's too busy of a season to sit down and come up with your own Advent resource.

That's why we created An Illustrated Advent for Families.

We want to be able to resource and support families, as well as provide a theologically-rich resource for churches to feel comfortable sending home with their children and families.

When you purchase An Illustrated Advent for Families, we will provide you with:

  • Family Devotions: 5 Weeks of Family Devotions that are simple, but meaningful. This year, our family devotions will walk you through Advent by focusing on a different Advent hymn each week. The hymns will be accompanied by a set of Advent scripture texts and the traditional Advent themes of Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love.
  • Coloring Pages: Five coloring pages that can be used by your children (or, let's be honest, parents too) that celebrate the story of Jesus' birth.
  • Advent Calendar with activities: We have an Advent Calendar featuring some really fun family activities to get you in the Christmas spirit. But it's also manageable, and you won't be overwhelmed by a massive amount of things to do.
  • Illustrated Advent Wreath: Color five paper candles and follow our simple directions for creating your very own Illustrated Advent Wreath.

We are very excited about this year's resource, and we know that you will love it too.

What do I get?

After completing your purchase, you'll instantly receive a link to download a ZIP file that includes the following:

  • Two PDF files of An Illustrated Advent for Families (2017). One is a print-quality PDF if you're going to make copies for families in your community. The other is optimized to be able to be emailed to families in your ministry.
  • Five .png image files of the candles for our Advent Wreath activity. We have included some detailed instructions for how to use these .png files with the Silhouette Cameo if you'd like to set up a print and cut file with the images. NOTE: We are not offering support for this technique, and we don't know if the files will work with the Cricut (or other cutting machines). If you are familiar with these cutting machines, you should be able to create what you want with the .png files following our instructions - but just realize that we won't be able to answer any questions or offer any email support with using these image files.
